ESAIL: 2 million messages from 70,000 ships on a single day – SpaceWatch.Global

Luxembourg, 1 April 2021. – The microsatellite ESAIL is ready to seize than two million messages from 70,000 completely different ships on a single day, representing 15% to 20% detection fee than satellites, the European Area Company (ESA) mentioned.

ESAIL tracks ships worldwide by detecting messages that ships radio-broadcast with their computerized identification methods (AIS), enabling them to be recognized even when far out to sea, at lengthy distances from coastal-based stations, ESA mentioned.

The file knowledge have been validated by ESAIL’s Canadian operator exactEarth which is integrating ESAIL into its satellite tv for pc fleet. The satellite tv for pc was constructed by the Luxembourgish producer and system integrator LuxSpace, a part of German OHB group, with assist from ESA and Luxembourg’s house company LSA.
